Sahara plays RAI !

RAI is a mixture of North African & South European music, its roots originally coming from Algeria. The formally ethnic Arabian music elements are enhanced with Latin-American and Flamenco rhythms. Furthermore the modern RAI is mixed with Reggae, Funk an Pop Grooves.
The programme of SAHARA contains among other things coversongs from Khaled, Thaha and Faudel, who are having number-one hits with their RAI music in France. They are megastars there (e.g. Aicha). Another Rai musician is Cheb Mami, guest on the last Sting-CD!
Sahara plays RAI !
and were founded in Bonn in 1999 by Ibrahim Hnine (voc,key, sequencer) and Carol Knauber (git ). To let the music sound more authentically, Moustafa Osh (perc) was affiliated in the band after four months.
In this line-up the band made a rapid career in Bonn area!

Ibrahim Hnine Vocals Keyboard
Brahim played in different pop and traditional-music-bands in his country Morocco and goes on various tours in the bordering countries of North Africa.

Carol Knauber Gitarre, Mandoline, Bouzzouki
Guitar Institut Of Technology in Los Angeles, 1983, composer, producer, 4 Solo Cds with musicians like Dave Weckel,(drums) Tom Brechtlein, (drums) Abraham Laboriel, (bass) Jimmy Johnson, (bass) Alfonso Johnson, (bass) Stevie Smith, (drums) Brandon Fields, (sax) and many more. 2 CDs with his acoustics band „STRING ATTACK“ ! other projects: „SOUL UNITED“.

Moustafa Osh arab. u. orient. Perc, Tabla + Vocals
Moustafa plays in TV Shows, goes on tour through Syria, Lebanon, Golf region and had concerts in London and Washington D.C (USA). He benefited from his study of folkloristic and folk music at the academy of arts in Cairo and at the university of Bonn

Hans Greuel Bass
Study of contrabass with University degree at the Musikhochschule Cologne, by Prof. P. Breuer.
Bandleader, producer and composer for his band „BIRDLAND“ with whom he recorded 3 CDs and the Latin – Rock – Band „CALYPTUS“ with whom he recorded 2 CDs.

Andreas Pietralczyk Drums
Andreas works as a professional in the Berlin cabarett group Sündikat Band, furthermore in Coverbands like Blockbuster and Undercover. Other projects: Flamenco-/Latin-Jazz with Gentle Rain and Big Band J.O.B. Andreas is a famous drums and percussion teacher in Cologne/Bonn and in great demand as Workshop-Drummer at Cologne MGI.

Sahara disbanded in nov.2007
